Cybercriminals and scammers often fish for your data or money online. But you can also sometimes deal with scammers by phone. So be on your guard with suspicious phones. Never share bank or personal details over the phone and do not simply call back an unknown number.
Phone fraud in examples
Do you have this for? Watch out!
Your phone rings so briefly that you don't have time to answer. If you call back, you end up on a foreign premium rate number and you quickly lose a lot of money.
You will receive the great news via text message that you have won a competition! You only need to call a foreign toll number to receive your prize. Unfortunately, there is no prize, only an expensive telephone bill.
Someone pretends to be Microsoft, your bank or a government agency and tries to gain access to your PC or data.
Fraud? Report it!
Help others by reporting scams. Did this happen to you?
Then file a complaint with the police and report it to the Telecommunications Ombudsman .
Also report it to Telenet via the web form . Telenet unfortunately cannot start its own investigation into malicious calls, but we can take action against suspicious text messages on the Telenet network. Not a Telenet customer? Then we will pass it on to the competent provider.
Good to know
Above all, remember the following if you suspect you have a fraudster on the phone or in your text messages:
- Never give out sensitive information over the phone, just hang up.
- Do not click on links in suspicious text messages or download apps through suspicious links.
